Over the years, many operating system have been developed for different purpose. the most typically operating system in ordanary desktop computers and laptops are windows, linux and Mac os.
Let us learn about a few of them.
Microsoft widows is onr of the most popular operating system. it is commercial OS that uses windows to execute the program. it has a GUI interface. it is a multi user and multitasking OS. Windows is the most popular os for home PCs, and there are several versions of it such as Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7,8,8.1 and Windows 10.
Linux and Unix
in addition to the servers, Linux is widely used in the home PCs. Many different versions of Linux are available for distribution, most of wich are free for the user (such as Ubuntu, Fedora and Mint.)
Mac OS X
Apple's Mac computers have their own operating system, OS X. The mac version of the Microsoft Office Suit can't be install on a windows computer. you can install other operating system on mac computers, but OS X operating system is only available for the computers made by Apple. Apple's lighter portable devices (ipad and iphones) use a light version of the same operating system iOS.
Android
BOSS (Bharat Operating System Solution)
BOSS is a GNU/Linux distribution developed by C-DAC, chennai, in order to benefit the usage of free/OpenSource software in India. BOSS GNU/Linux advanced server has unique features such as web server, proxy server, database server, mail server, network server etc. It has inhanced desktop environment integrated with Indian language support and other software. The version 6.0, was released in August 2015. The software has been cirtified by the Government of India for adoption and implementation on a national scale. The major advantage of BOSS is that more people would be able to access the software in their own local language to use the internet and other Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities.
Solaris
Solaris OS is a free Unix-based operating system developed by Sun Microsystems. The first version of sun OS was published in 1982. With the version 4.0, the new product name Solaris was introduced for SunOS, in 1988. After the acquisition of Sun Microsystem in january 2010, Oracle decided to discontinue the open Solaris distribution and the development model.
Symbian
Fuchsia
Fuchsia is a capability-based operating system currently being developed by Google. It first became known to the public when the project appeared on GitHub in August 2016 without any official announcement. In contrast to prior Google-developed operating systems such as Chrome OS and Android, which are based on Linux kernels, Fuchsia is based on a new microkernel called "Zircon".
